U.S. Fire Administration reports there are approximately 15,600 house fires, 400 injuries, and 15 deaths annually due to clothing dryer fires. A major cause? Failure to clean lint.
Clothing dryers use hot air to dry clothes. The lint produced during this process is mostly caught by the lint trap — but only about 70%. The rest builds up inside the dryer and the vent line, which restricts airflow and becomes a highly flammable hazard.

Warning Signs to Watch For:
- Clothes take longer to dry
- Moisture buildup or musty smell in laundry room
- Visible lint sticking out of dryer exhaust vent
- Lint around or behind the dryer machine
- Vent flap outside isn’t moving when dryer is running
- It’s been over a year since your last dryer vent cleaning
IMPORTANT: If your dryer vent is longer than 8 feet or has multiple elbows, cleaning becomes more difficult and should be done professionally. Improper venting can lead to fires, mold growth, and damage to your dryer and home.
